The brief

There was resistance to new scheduling methods: many employees believed the organisation would be the main beneficiary. How could the consequences for employees themselves become tangible?

The game

I designed a physical game with a large scheduling board on the floor. Participants played a persona and tried to create the best possible roster. Hidden relationships gave the game a soap-opera twist: one person wanted to avoid a colleague, while a persona with a crush wanted to share their shift.

What participants discovered

By playing the methods themselves, participants found that one method gave them far fewer preferred shifts than the other. They could experience the differences from the perspective of their own role.

My contribution

Game design and facilitation for Rijkswaterstaat through Lighthouse e2i: turning a scheduling challenge into a physical, playful experience.
